Total Window Concepts – Solarview [BLP]

Overview:

Range of internal sunscreen fabrics woven from PVC coated polyester fabric. Solarview is suitable for residential and commercial internal window covering applications.

Product Description:

Total Window Concepts have produced a range of internal sunscreen fabrics, woven from PVC coated polyester. Product is made of 20% polyester and 80% PVC. Fabrics can effectively reduce heat and glare transmitted into internal spaces while still allowing outward vision. PVC sunscreen is designed to resist moisture and bacteria.

The fabrics can achieve reduction in the demand for air conditioning, reducing electricity consumption and associated greenhouse gases. The fabrics provide some thermal benefit, but actual performance will depend on the hardware configuration used.

Automated sunscreens can be connected to building management systems for optimal control of glare and thermal efficiency.

DEHP-

The primary plasticiser used in this product is DEHP, comprising approximately 18% of the product. DEHP is listed on Australia’s National Pollutant Inventory (NPI), and has associated Risk Phrases stating that it may impair fertility (R60) and may cause harm to unborn children (R61). However, given that VOC emissions were tested as lower than 0.5 mg/m3 (which complies with the Green Star Office Interiors v1.1 levels for Tenancy Fitout Items), DEHP can be considered safe for usage in these internal blinds.

PVC-

The primary constituent of the fabric is PVC (approx 80%). PVC is a contentious material, and plasticised PVC contains pthalates. PVC has been widely studied and researched regarding potential adverse health and environmental impacts during manufacture and disposal. Please see Glossary for more information on PVC and plasticisers.

This product contains a large percentage of PVC (approx 80%) which is based on a non-renewable fossil fuel petrochemical polymer (ethylene). If the product were to be recycled (after usable life) this investment in resources would be partially off-set through reduced material use in the future.
