Ecospecifier Issues of Concern / Red Lights
Minor Issue – Amphorous Silica
Termicide sealant contains amorphous silica. This exists in a variety of other common materials such as concrete, render, grout, tile, glass etc. This issue of concern relates to occupational production activities and is not an issue in application or in use, as it is bound into sealant.
The IARC classifies crystalline silica inhaled in the form of quartz, from occupational sources, as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1). However, the Australian body, ASCC/NOHSC (National Occupational Health and Safety Commission) has not classified crystalline silica as a carcinogen.
Precautions for workers during manufacture such as appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adequate ventilation will mitigate the risk of potential issues noted, such that in accordance with and ecospecifier Risk Assessment no further comment is required.
