Halifax Vogel Group - Seratone Metallics and Classics [BLP]
Overview:
Range of low VOC and added formaldehyde free high-density hardboard panels made using significant recycled content. Suitable in lightweight residential and commercial applications.
Product Description:
Seratone Metallics and Classics are high-density tempered hardboard panels made from post-industrial recycled woodchip and dust material (approx 95%). The pressed wood fibre product is added formaldehyde free, containing natural materials such as linseed oil, rather than adhesives. The panels can be used in domestic and commercial applications, as wall (vertical) linings in wet areas, or for decorative surfaces in retail and hospitality areas. Panels may also be used for partitioning, cabinetry and joinery, furniture or sliding wardrobe doors.
The fibreboard panels are finished with UV primer surfaces and high grade low VOC urethane finishes. Once fully cured and ready for purchase, the 100% solid finish is low VOC.
The panel finish is smooth and non-porous, providing a durable surface that resists marks, stains, steam and moisture.
Back surface is dye coated with a UV non VOC acrylate and the 150mm ‘silver seal’ moisture protection strip is a UV non VOC acrylic urethane.
Seratone panels can be installed as permanent or removable panels. The removable installation method is for dry areas only, but does not require the use of adhesives, allows easy access to services (electrical, plumbing) and increases the reuse potential of the product.
Country of Origin
Manufactured in New Zealand, wood fibre sourced from the United States.
ecospecifier Issues of Concern / Red Lights?
While manufacturer claims FSC certification for wood fibre components, it does not hold Chain of Custody (CoC) certification and hence cannot claim FSC Certification. Various timber certification schemes are currently in operation in regards to the sustainable and responsible management of forests as sources of wood. According to ecospecifier, an analysis of the various timber certification schemes reveals that the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is the most rigorous and robust, and environmentally desirable certification to receive, due to the stringent criteria followed, (eg. FSC is the only scheme based on a clear set of min. performance based criteria, prohibits the conversion of forests to plantations, and also prohibits the use of GMO trees). See Timber Technical Guide.
Manufacture and Disposal Stage:
Timber fibres and level 2 R-phrases materials are used in this product which can cause discomfort to eyes, the skin and the respiratory system if no proper precaution is used when cutting the product.
This is similar to any dust particles generated during the processing of similar materials. Appropriate extraction system should be used to remove the particles during the cutting and routing processing.
As with any timber processing it is advisable to wear suitable protective clothing when working with this material and to rinse eyes immediately in case of contact
