ecospecifier Issues of Concern / Red Lights

Red light comment

The product contains formaldehyde resins. Formaldehyde is classified as carcinogenic to humans by the IARC. However the product has low emissions of formaldehyde (provided product is not exposed to heat to create gas) as the resin is cured by heat and pressure binding the ingredients together and is therefore not considered to be of high risk.  The product contains less than 0.5 mg/L of free formaldehyde.

Wood dust is classified as carcinogenic to humans by the IARC.  As the product is used in solid form it is not considered to be of high risk.  However if machining, sawing, drilling, routing, laser cutting or sanding is to be done there are effective precautions that can be taken to minimise dust level exposure.

Issue of Concern

Exposure to melamine formaldehyde at an occupational level can cause sensitisation by skin contact. It is also harmful to aquatic organisms (R52/53). Product contains only small amounts of this substance and, given it is bound in the product and has low formaldehyde emissions this is unlikely to be of any consequence.
