Continuous thin Melamine Edging, with high resistance properties. Suitable for all panel edge treatment.

Product Description:

Laminex® Melamine Edging is thin decorative edge stripping for laminated panels and coordinates perfectly (manufacturer claim)with the rest of the Laminex range of decorative wood panels and laminates.

Manufactured by combining paper, modified melamine thermosetting resins and continuous hot pressing, enhancing resistance to wear and stains. Suitable for all types of edge treatment for particleboard, medium density fibreboard and plywood.

Decorative paper used to make Laminex Melamine Edging is made from wood pulp sourced from managed timber plantations overseas. Heavy metals are not present in the inks used for printed paper. This product is part of The Laminex Group’s Greenfirst range.

Melamine Edging is an effective material to completely replace the use of PVC in panel edge treatments.

Use of this product is likely to contribute to the achievement of Green Star™ credit points.

Issues of Concern?

VOCs: While melamine is based on a formaldehyde resin, it is cross linked under heat and pressure and the resultant product is threshold E1/ E0 or better. There has been no emissions testing provided, but based on tests of other laminate products using similar technology it is appropriate to say these materials would be considered low VOC provided they are not glued with contact adhesives.

Various timber certification schemes are currently in operation in regards to sustainably managed timber plantations as sources of wood. An analysis of the various timber certification schemes reveals that the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is the most rigorous and robust, and environmentally desirable certification to receive, due to the stringent criteria followed.(eg. FSC is the only scheme based on a clear set of min. performance based criteria, prohibits the conversion of forests to plantations, and also prohibits the use of GMO trees).
