Biotech - Thermilate Insulation Paint Additive [BLP]
Overview:
Innovative energy efficient microspherical paint additive that significantly improves thermal insulation quality of coating. Suitable for various interior and exterior applications in residential, commercial and industrial use.
Product Description:
Thermilate is a non-toxic powder additive that can be mixed with almost any paint to create an insulative, energy efficient roof or wall coating to keep heat in or out of buildings, significantly improving indoor comfort levels, while reducing energy use through air conditioning, and associated greenhouse gas emissions. Thermilate (Insuladd E Coat) paint additive is accredited as a US Energy Star Partner under the roof products category. Energy efficiency requirements of this category state the products solar reflectance must be higher than 0.65 (and 0.5 after three years). Various tests and case studies have been conducted on Thermilate, and if applied both internally and externally, energy consumption required for heating and cooling can be reduced by up to 40%.
Manufacturer states the product was developed as part of the NASA technology exchange programme. It consists of thousands of ‘ceramic microspheres’ no larger than a grain of sand with a highly durable ceramic surface layer. All gas within the microspheres has been removed, creating a vacuum. Heat cannot be conducted through a vacuum and hence, the microspheres act as a thermal barrier.
Thermilate also has an added reflectivity quality when used in topcoats that further assists in reducing heat absorption into the surface and reduces potential re-radiation from the internal roof or wall surfaces. This should assist reducing extremes in overall ‘mean radiant temperature’.
