Biotech Australia – Inflector [BLP]

Overview:

Insulating panels designed to reduce solar heat gain and loss through doors, windows, skylights and other glazed areas. Suitable for internal residential and commercial applications.

Product Description:

The Inflector material provides a transparent radiant barrier for use on windows, doors and skylights. The material consists of a metallised, coated, polyethylene sheet laminated to a sheet of carbon graphite PVC which is perforated and laminated to a sheet of clear polyester.

The material is reversible to reflect heat outwards in summer or inwards in winter. In summer (silver side outwards), material reflects solar energy and radiant heat to reduce heat gain. In winter (dark side out), material absorbs solar energy and convert it to interior radiant heat, reducing night time thermal loss and cold air infiltration.

Product also provides UV protection and reduces glare transmitted into internal spaces while still allowing outward vision. Panels can achieve reduction in the load of HVAC systems, reducing electricity consumption and associated greenhouse gases, particularly when used in conjunction with a closely sealed system.

Product can be supplied as fixed panels, roller blinds, vertical blinds and sliding panels and retrofitted to existing installations or incorporated into new window units and is suitable for use on windows, doors, skylights and other glazed areas.

ecospecifier Issues of Concern / Red Lights

Polyester and PVC are based on a fossil fuel petrochemical polymer.

Aluminium is a minor component but has a high embodied energy. However, this may be countered over the product’s life by its improved thermal performance and low maintenance lifespan.

Details on plasticiser not yet available. Issues have been raised in the EU on certain plasticisers used in PVC within specific applications such as medical devices and children chew-toys.

Full constituent list for adhesive is yet to be provided by manufacturer however, manufacturer claims that chemical properties of adhesive changes from their raw material state during the manufacturing process of the product.
