Autex – QuietStuf Acoustic Insulation [BLP]

Overview:

Acoustic and thermal polyester insulation batts made with up to 85% recycled polyester content. Designed for targeting reduction in acoustic noise transfer. Suitable for residential, commercial and industrial insulation applications.

Product Description:

QuietStuf insulation are thermally bonded bulk-fibre insulation for ceilings, walls and floors. QuietStuf is designed to reduce reverberated sound, impact noise and noise transmission between rooms, midfloor cavities and external sources, providing sound dampening and reducing ambient noise levels. Depending on the wall construction system, batts can decrease noise transfer by up to 8 decibels.

Product is produced using mix of virgin and recycled 100% polyester fibre. Polyester is a non-toxic and non harmful, low VOC product and a more installer-friendly alternative to fibreglass insulation, requiring no specific protective apparel during installation. Product provides very good acoustic properties.

Insulation is manufactured with 85% recycled polyester fibre from PET plastic, and is recyclable at end of life. Recycled polyester content has significant environmental benefits of reduced material consumption and waste to landfill. There is also significantly less energy required to produce recycled polyester, compared to virgin material.

The manufacturing process is a zero waste process, whereby any excess trimmings of goods are reused. Acoustic insulation products are suitable for various building and construction applications, including wall/partitions and roofs/ceiling insulation. Product will not corrode or crumble over time, nor lose its loft.

Country of Origin

Recycled polyester fibres are sourced from Korea, China and Indonesia. Virgin polyester fibres come from South East Asia. All finished products are manufactured in Australia. Productions are plants located in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, reducing the need for additional transport to market.

ecospecifier Issues of Concern / Red Lights

Minor issue: polyester is based on fossil fuel petrochemical polymer, however if the fibre is able to be fully recycled this investment in resources will be off-set by reduced material use in the future.
