Overview:

Tongue and groove decorative timber overlay flooring that has been solar kiln dried and is thinner than traditional flooring to increase material efficiency. Product is suitable for interior use in residential, commercial and industrial applications.

Product Description:

TimberLay is a solid hardwood overlay flooring. Product is provided unfinished with tongue and groove edge that accommodates concealed nail heads. Available in wide range of species and colour hues.

Timber is sourced from Australian Forestry Certification Scheme (AFCS) sources with Chain of Custody documents. See Issue of Concern on timber certification policy.

Available species include coastal blackbutt, tallowwood and rose gum which have good hardness characteristics and natural durability.

Product is solar kiln dried, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. TimberLay is thinner than a traditional floor board meaning that greater coverage is gained from the same amount of timber.

Ecospecifier Issues of Concern / Red Lights

AST do not have FSC Chain of Custody certification tracking the timber through the production process. Various timber certification schemes are currently in operation in regards to the sustainable and responsible management of forests as sources of wood. According to ecospecifier, an analysis of the various timber certification schemes reveals that the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC, Chain of Custody) is the most rigorous and robust certification, due to the stringent criteria followed. FSC is the only scheme based on a clear set of minimum performance based criteria, prohibits the conversion of forests to plantations, and also prohibits the use of GMO trees and toxic baiting.
