Assessment Methodology
How products are considered
The process for any product seeking listing on ecospecifier since October 2004 is:
- Completion of the ecospecifier short form (mandatory) or long form (recommended)
- Assessment by the ecospecifier team as to whether the product complies with the ‘best practice towards sustainability’ criteria
- Listing on ecospecifier after verification and factual error checking by the relevant supplier/manufacturer/service provider.
As noted under The Business Model and Standards recognition & assessment types, ecospecifier does not charge for a 'Basic' listing on the site. Basic listings continue to be listed based on information sourced by ecospecifier. In 2005 ecospecifier introduced flat-fee per product options to allow different levels of research to be presented and allow more content in the public domain:
The depth of the listing is recognised in the name of the product in the Product Search Results page by the display of [BLP], [EC], [ECP] or [ECG] after the product name. If there is no such extension, then it is a Basic listing.
For more detailed explanation see Standards recognition & assessment types
For Manufacturers and/or Suppliers to understand the Assessment Type listing options see Listing options, or apply to have a product assessed see The listing process.
